We are hoping someone can assist us with a viable solution, other than splitting up application pools. We have been blocking IP's manually on our hardware firewall, but we are seeing requests from as much as 3000 unique IP's in around 18 hours. Problem is, the CMS sites are all processing these requests, and then returning 404 pages, and this is putting the application pool these sites run in, under immense load. We have since removed all these hack uploaded pages, but we are now seeing a large amount of requests to these pages again, which no longer exist. Seems like a google advertising boost or page rank type thing, not sure exactly. The hack consisted of product pages being uploaded to websites which then get called from various locations around the world. So a few months back we had a major hack event on a Shared Hosting server running around 2000 sites.
